Honored by the government of Ukraine, People's artist of Ukraine,
professor Tatyana Verkina serves as the rector of Kharkiv State Kotlyarevsky
University of Arts since October, 2003.
She was born in Kharkiv in the family of academician Boris Verkin,
the founder of the Institute of Low Temperatures and Engineering
of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences and graduated from piano department
of Kharkiv State Kotlyarevsky University of Arts (supervised by
prof. V. Zakharchenko)
Being among the best graduates she was offered a position at the
University upon her graduation. Soon after Tatyana Verkina was sent
to Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow to polish up her performing
mastery and educational skills. She studied in the class of People's
artist of Russia, professor S. Neigaus as assistant-probationer
and was also supervised by People's artist of Russia, prof. E. Malinin.
At the end of the 80-ies she
pioneered master classes in Ukraine on the basis of Kotlyarevsky University
and she got prominent soviet and foreign educators to take part in
these classes.
Since 1992 her master classes became annual and were held not only
in Ukraine but also in Germany, the USA, France and Switzerland.
By now professor Tatyana Verkina is a recognized and welcome Jury
member or chairperson of various national and international piano
competitions in Sweden and Germany.
Her contribution to the formation of the modern Ukrainian piano
school can hardly be underestimated. She has taught big number of
highly professional pianists (over 60). Among them are winners of
national and international piano competitions: V. Chmelevsky, R.
Odintsov, D. Nazarenko, I. Irkha, I. Denisenko, O. Pershina, G.
Sagalova.
Tatyana Verkina is a performing artist who is engaged in permanent
concert activity. She gives a lot of concerts as a soloist and as
a member of chamber ensembles or symphony orchestras with many concert
tours within Ukraine and beyond its borders. She was giving performances
in Russia, Belorus, Georgia, Armenia, Germany, France, Switzerland
and the USA. Musical compositions by Ukrainian and Kharkiv composers
are often in her repertory.
Professor T. Verkina is an initiator, art director and undisputed
leader of "Kharkiv Assemblies" - an International Classical
Music Festival which has become famous in Europe for over 10 years
of its history. The Festival attracts well-known performers and
musicians from around the world. It also gives music researches
the opportunity to exchange ideas and innovations at special seminars
which are held as part of Festival's program.
She also serves as a public worker performing a number of social
duties. She is a member of the all-Ukrainian union of musicians,
a Board member of Kharkiv regional fund supporting young talents,
a member of the Committee on the issues of culture and arts of the
all-Ukrainian fund "Vidrodzhennya" (renascence), a member
of the supervisory Board of Kharkiv Humanitarian Institute "Narodna
Akademia" (People's academy). In 1994 she entered
the Kharkiv rotary club and was its president in 1996-1997.
Tatyana Verkina is a winner of I. Slatin's municipal competition,
holds the "People's acknowledgement" prize in the field
of music, is awarded with honorary title "Slobozhanskaya Slava"
(Slobozhan Glory) and Paul Harris medal by Rotary Club International.
